Now Roman Gabriel has come tumbling down...Just like Unites did, when I warned you before.
Somehow you never learn, Carroll.
I guess you just didn't think I could do it twice.
Well, you were wrong, now weren't you.

Gabriel May Return in Month

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Quarterback Roman Gabriel of the Los Angeles Rams suffered a collapsed lung on his first day of practice Monday and was rushed to a hospital. Physicians were optimistic he would be back in action in about a month.
The 31-year-old athlete completed a series of stretching exercises and was throwing the football in a non-contact drill when he complained of feeling ill.
He was taken to Long Beach Community Hospital, where a team of physicians prepared for possible surgery. Surgery later was ruled out, however, and doctors decided to treat the lung by inserting a tube through Gabriel's nose.
Dr. Jules Resinski, head of the team of physicians, said the tube would remain in place until Wednesday, when it was probable the 11-year National Football Conference veteran would be released from the hospital.
Resinski said Gabriel should be able to begin running in about a week, but he ruled out any con- tact scrimmage for two to three weeks. He said the Rams' star should be able to return to his normal game inside a month.
The quarterback had been throwing in the first drill for the veteran players at Long Beach State College when he told trainer Cash Buckwell:
"I don't think I can practice any longer. I can't breathe."
Directed to lie down, Gabriel didn't improve and was taken to Long Beach Community Hospital, about a mile away. It was first reported he underwent surgery, but later the re- port was that he went to surgery for insertion of the tube to reinflate the damaged lung.
Although Gabriel has suffered many injuries in his long football career, he has not had a lung problem previously. Two years ago he suffered rib damage, but on the opposite side of his chest.
Last Thursday, Carroll Rosenbloom, former owner of the Baltimore Colts, announced acquisition of the Rams in a complicated deal in which two Midwesterners bought the Los Angeles Franchise and then traded it for Baltimore. Rosenbloom's expressed hopes for a title were largely based on Gabriel's quarterbacking.
Without the 6-foot-4 passer, the Rams must depend on reserves Jerry Rhone and John Walton. They open their preseason schedule Aug. 4 against the Cleveland Browns at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Gabriel, a collegiate star at North Carolina State, has been the No. 1 Rams quarterback since 1965. His Rams records (See Gabriel, Page B6)

include 1,519 completions in 2,- 990 passes attempted for 20,196 yards and 138 touchdowns. 1969 was the season he was honored as the NFL's Most Valuable Player in the league. After the 1970 season, he underwent knee and elbow surgery and last December repeat- ed surgery on the right knee for ligament damage.
Doctors reported the lung was between 60 and 70 per cent collapsed. The tube was in- serted to create negative pres- sure for reinflation.
Tommy Prothro, the Rams' coach, was heartened by the optimistic reports indicating the quarterback should be available for the start of the regular NFL season.

Just read that you've swapped the Colts for the L.A. Rams.
Well, Carroll...I've got bad news for you. It is much easier for me, from a technical standpoint...to wreck the Rams...than it is for me to stop the Colts.
So you are acquiring a team...that I will stop like it has run into a stone wall, this coming season.
Unless you hire my services, of course. In which case...I will "turn to" and go all out to help your Rams to win.
Either way, Carroll...it is entirely up to you.
If there's no answer...I will take the Rams and the Colts both...apart...this coming pro season. They will get nowhere. Guaranteed.
If you call me, and arrange a meeting...then hire me...it's a different ball game.
